Servitude to Humans Vs. Servitude to Allah
Despite all of these examples, people still insist that servitude is derogatory and demeaning. But that is not the case. Servitude to other human beings is indeed something extremely awful and negative. We must understand that there is a great difference between servitude to other human beings and servitude to God. Servitude to other human beings is the exact opposite of servitude to God.
Servitude to other human beings is usually accompanied by hatred because in this case both master and servant are basically similar, both being human beings and yet one is claiming superiority over the other by debasing and exploiting him.
In this relationship, the master lives of the blood and toil of his slave. In addition, the servant in this case has no will of his own. His master orders him what to do: today he must work in the barn, tomorrow in the fields, and the day after that tending to the sheep. The servant has no say in the matter; his individuality is completely smothered. If he disobeys the master, he is immediately punished and forced back into line.
As for servitude to God, it is always associated with love. It is the servant here who lives of the many blessings of his Master. The servant in this case has freedom of choice from among the things that God desires of him. God desires us to do certain things and guides us towards those things. But ultimately it is we who decide for ourselves whether we will obey or not. The servant in this case is not forced to conform through implementation of immediate punishments. If you don’t pray for example your heart will not suddenly stop. If you don’t fast you will not be punished with kidney failure. That would be coercion.
