Asalam alaikum my question is can we put ill or sick person’s photo on our status or social media and ask people to make dua for him .jazak Allah khair

I pray to Allah Almighty to heal all those who are sick, ameen.

There is nothing wrong, from an Islamic perspective, to post a photo—that meets the general Islamic value of a loved sick person, if he or she is OK with this, and ask the people to pray for his or her recovery.

Q:

Should I have paid zakat al-fitr on behalf of my parents?

Zakat al-Fitr is an obligation on every Muslim who could afford the basic needs for the duration of one day and night. The one who is taking care of the family should give it on behalf of the family members.

Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) enjoined the payment of one Sa` of dates or one Sa` of barley as Zakat al-Fitr on every Muslim, young and old, male and female…” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

You may pay zakat al-Fitr on behalf of you parents if you love to. However, if, for some reasons, your parents are financially dependent on you, you then have to pay zakat al-fitr on their behalf.

Q:

I missed some days of fasting in Ramadan because of menses. Now should I make up the missed days first or fast six days of Shawwal?

A:

Though it seems better to make up for the missed fast days first and then fast the six days of Shawwal, you may fast Shawwal days first.

However, according to some scholars, if you fast in Shawwal with the intention to make up for the missed fast days of Ramadan, you would be rewarded for fasting the Sunnah days of Shawwal too. This means that by fasting to make up for the missed fast days of Ramadan in Shawwal, you would get double benefit simultaneously: making up for the missed days and getting the reward of fasting the six days of Shawwal.

You may apply the view that you see more convenient. All the views are correct, in shaa’ Allah.

What are the virtues of Shawwal fasting?

Fasting 6 days during the month of Shawwal is highly recommended by the Sunnah. A Muslim who is capable to fast should try his/her best to fast these optional fast-days of Shawwal.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said, “Whosoever fasts the holy month of Ramadan and then follows it with fasting six days of Shawwal, it would be regarded (for him/her) as if he/she has fasted the entire year.” (Muslim).

It is noteworthy that it is not a condition to fast these days consecutively. So, a person may fast on Mondays and Thursdays, for instance, until he/she fasts the 6 days of Shawwal.

Dear scholar, how should I maintain the spirit of Ramadan?

I believe that Ramadan is the month when a Muslim spiritually recharges his/her heart with faith—by means of observing good deeds and acts of worship—in order to live Islam throughout the year.

It may be difficult for a Muslim to keep the same level of `ibaddah (acts of worship) after Ramadan. However, a Muslim should not totally abandon all types of `ibaddah he/she used to do in Ramadan.

Therefore, a Muslim should spare no efforts to keep the spirit of Ramadan throughout the other months of the year by means of-

1) Seeking Allah’s support, beseeching Him Almighty to guide him/her to the right path and help him/her remain steadfast in faith.

2) Observing optional fasting after Ramadan, as Muslims are encouraged by the Sunnah to observe optional fasting after Ramadan. The days in which optional fasting is recommended are:

a) Fasting six days during the month of Shawwal.

b) Fasting the day of Arafah, 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, provided that the person is not offering Hajj.

c) Fasting the 10th of Muharram, and if possible the 9th and the 11th days of the same month.

d) Fasting as many days as possible during the month of Shaban.

e) Fasting during the months of Ragab, Dhul-Qidah, Dhul Hijjah, and Muharram.

f) Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays.

g) Fasting the 13th, 14th, and 15th of every lunar month.

3) Keeping on offering optional night Prayer.

4) Keeping on reciting, listening to and reflecting on the Quran.

5) Keeping on taking care of the poor and the needy.

6) Keeping on offering supererogatory acts of worship.

7) Keeping on performing dhikr a lot and asking Almighty Allah for forgiveness.

8) Avoiding the prohibitions and illegal practices.
