When I think of Jannah (Paradise), lots of beautiful things come to mind based on the descriptions in the Quran as well as my own imagination and desires.
But everything that I visualize is basically just a perfect version of what we can find on this earth, even though I know better than that. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
Allah has said: I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no heart has conceived. (Narrated in Sunan At-Tirmidhi)
In my mind’s eye, I see lots of greenery, huge mansions to live in, waterfalls and rivers, and perfect colors in the sky. Eternal youth and unlimited strength will be a given. I imagine myself with my family without being separated by death, distance, or old age.
But the one thing about Paradise that entices me more than anything else is something that absolutely cannot be found in this world. It has never existed here, and will not exist in the future, either.
It is the thing that drives me to keep working for Jannah, even in my weakest and most difficult moments. It’s the only way that I imagine getting relief from the hardships of this life. No beautiful or material thing can take its place.
That thing is peace.
In this world, even the richest people are not satisfied. They have everything that money could possibly buy, but they aren’t truly content.
Countless people envy them, but many wealthy people even take their own lives for various reasons. Because this life just isn’t perfect, no matter how hard you work or what you might acquire. And that’s a bitter realization to come to.
This world has illness, poverty, and natural disasters. It allows cruelty, oppression, and crime. It tortures us with mental distress, heartbreak, loneliness, and loss.
But relief is around the corner. Peace is on the way. Contentment has been promised…
Enter Paradise; no fear will be on you, nor will you grieve. (Quran 7:49)
Indeed, the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in [joyful] occupation. They and their spouses will be in shade, reclining on adorned couches. For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]. ‘Peace,’ a word from the Merciful Lord. (Quran 36:55-58)
O Allah, grant us that everlasting peace. Ameen.
