A Beautiful Story
A wealthy man decided to build a mosque and he wanted it to be his special good deed that he will present Allah on the Day of Judgment. While he was building the mosque, he was very keen to not allow anybody have a contribution in it.
One day, an old woman came past and put a small bucket, she said maybe they could use it. Amazingly, when the mosque was built, the founder of the mosque saw a dream. He saw in this dream two palaces and he inquired about one of them they said this is your reward with Allah because of your contribution.
When the man asked his workers if there was anyone who contributed in building the mosque, they said:
“There was an old lady who passed by and she gave us a bucket.” (You can find the story here.)
So the reward of the woman was great just because she donated that small bucket.

Never Underestimate it
It’s wonderful how God counts good deeds! Even a smile is considered a good deed. Doing good in our daily life is the core of Islamic ethics. And as trustees in God’s earth, it’s essential for us to make the earth a better place by becoming ourselves better persons. This certainly helps to shape our personality and our purpose in this life.
It’s our good deeds that grow with us and follow us even after we die; it’s our good deeds that will benefit us in this life and in the hereafter; and it’s the thing by which we win the pleasure of our Lord.
Our good deeds can be as simple as a smile or it can be massive. Doing good deeds is for everyone, for the rich and the poor, for the young and the elder, for the sick and the healthy, for the capable and incapable. So there is no excuse!
No Good Deed is Small
The Prophet Muhammad said: Do not belittle a good deed, (no matter how small it may seem) even if it is your meeting with your (Muslim) brother with a cheerful face. (Muslim)
No good deed is actually small. Every good deed done with a big heart is never lost. Even by your smile you can bring happiness to someone’s heart without your knowing.
Don’t Delay it
Queen Zubaydah, wife of Caliph Harun Al-Rashid, traveled to Makkah to perform Hajj. It became apparent to her that Makkah was facing a water shortage. So she made a chain of wells that provided water for Muslim pilgrims along the route from Baghdad to Makkah and Madinah. It was renamed the ‘Darb Zubaydah’ in her honor. She was seen in a dream saying, “Allah forgave my sins, not because of the water source I made but because of the extra units I used to pray at night.” (Source)
We never expect what deed by which Allah will forgive our sins; our deeds may seem small and trivial, but they’re of great rewards.
So never delay any good deed. You see a branch of a tree in the middle of the street, don’t hesitate to remove it; maybe it is the accepted deed that you will meet Allah with on the Day of Judgment.
Say a good word to someone, fulfill their needs, ease their pain; maybe this will grant you God’s forgiveness.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
Whoever fulfills the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever removes the troubles of his brother, Allah will remove one of his troubles on the Day of Resurrection; and whoever covers up the fault of a Muslim, Allah will cover up his fault on the Day of Resurrection. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
May Allah accept all our good deeds.
