6 Positive Emotions to Get Past Your Slump

Things happen. And you fall deep into a kind of ‘hole‘. You feel down, bored, stuck in your routine and demotivated.

Along with these come emotions like negativity, feeling blue, frustration and confusion.

If only it were so easy to stay positive and motivated all the time. If only!

Even a single thought of positive change seem far beyond reach and too much for you to consider. But it’s not impossible.

Because change begins with YOU.

Verily, Allah does not change the condition of people until they change what is within themselves.(Quran 13:11)

The first thing you need to know about getting past your slump is that Allah created you and your emotions. When you connect to Him with pure devotion and intention, your positivity levels will increase.

The second thing is that continuous self learning, growth and development can empower you to an optimal level. Without such beneficial change, your mind, body and soul face a threat of stagnation and decay. They could easily become infected by negative ideologies and overwhelming worldly desires.

You could lose your focus, motivation and connection to a superior higher purpose – the purpose for which you were created. This purpose is fulfilled by striving in a steady and consistent manner in all of your affairs.

Day by day.

Hour by hour.

So what emotions can help you thrive and flourish, moving you out of that unavoidable slump? Here are 6 positive emotions that can help you generate positivity, rebuild your energy and restore your sense of higher purpose.

1. Attachment

Spiritual attachment is superior to other forms of attachment. Whatever situation you find yourself, irrespective of your needs, worldly status or wealth, always attach your soul to Allah.

Attachment of your soul to its Creator will serve as much needed nutrition for the soul. You need Him always. If you feel lost or distant from Him, then find your way back to Him. Don’t cut yourself away from Him deliberately.

Attaching yourself to Allah is a comforting and fulfilling type of attachment not an emotionally sickening type.

2. Awe

Of Allah and His Greatness. He is the Provider, the One without need and the Ever Living.

He is the First and the Last.

He is the Granter of security, The Bestower of peace, The Bestower of form and The Knower of subtleties.

He is the All-Knowing, The All-Hearing and The All-Seeing and The All-Aware.

He is the All-Sufficient and The Disposer of your Affairs.

3. Hope

Always have hope in the Mercy of Allah. Seek His forgiveness and repent unto Him. He will respond to you and He will reward you.

Put your hope in your Creator and not in His creations as you work hard for success in this world and the next.

Remember this life is a test upon test upon test. And Allah says:

For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. (94: 5-6)

Such were Quran stories to help you overcome demotivation. Prophet Adam was tested. So was Jacob and Moses and Joseph (peace be upon them).

The best of mankind, our model and beloved prophet Muhammad was also tested. He experienced good and bad times. But He always had hope and kept striving for success – Jannah, till his last breadth.

4. Gratitude

Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? (55:13)

Reflect and give thanks for the countless blessings and bounties given to you by Allah.

You can practice gratitude on a higher level by using a positivity journal.

Practice gratitude through your thoughts, words and actions.

5. Tranquillity

Peace and tranquility comes from truly knowing Allah.

Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest. (13:28)

Strive to remove the distractions and impurities from your life, so you can focus on Allah with a pure and tranquil heart. You can achieve tranquility in many ways.

Some of these are by attaining khushu’ in Salah and by bringing the Quran close to your heart.

Rest, comfort, serenity and contentment comes from consciously tuning-in to Allah with your mind, body and soul.

6. Love of Allah and His Messenger

Have a longing and affection for Allah. And manifest this love such that you try to avoid anything that will dampen or corrupt it.

Your simple formula? Love His Prophet and follow his sunnah.

Remember:

Stay attached to Allah through consciousness of Him, remembrance and constant purification of intention. Whatever you do, do it for His Pleasure. Turn all of your acts into worship to earn His pleasure.

Reflect constantly on His Greatness. Have hope in Him. Seek and practice gratitude constantly. Seek tranquillity by submitting to Him. And find comfort in loving Him and His Messenger more than anyone or anything.
