Black History Month Ends… Imams Cherish Black Legacy

At the end of the Black History Month, we explore here some insights of Muslim Imams about the occasion.

Islam teaches us that there is no room for racism. The diversity of languages and colors of human beings is a sign of Allah’s majesty. It offers us an opportunity to practice humbleness, to cherish equality and to appreciate differences.

The Black History Month has been a chance to refresh these values and to remember great figures who struggled for this cause.

For Black History Month, we recognize the First Recorded Hafiz (Memorized the whole Book) of the Quran in the…

Announcing a new seminar: Malcolm After Makkah

Big Announcement! On this day, #MalcolmX was assasinated. It was an honor to announce a new scholarship fund in his name with the blessing of his family at Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research and more will be done to honor his legacy insha'Allah this year including an event at the location of his assasination with Shaun King. But I want people to understand just how coherent, transformative, and spiritual Malcolm was. We often hear of the Hajj, and then his last year is a blur. But Malcolm had plans. This new seminar with AlMaghrib Institute which will be up close and personal will be launching in April. Stay tuned!

A Tribute to Malcolm X – Imam Zaid Shakir

On this day in 1965, at the age of 39, Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) was shot to death while speaking at a rally at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, N.Y.In this short Ta'leef Collective documentary vignette, Imam Zaid Shakir intimately discuss the life and death of Malcolm X. "People before us passed us this Baton (Islam)," explains Imam Zaid, "and in the 20th century it was a hard leg of the race…. it was difficult to be a Muslim. But despite all the hardship, that baton was put in our hand… are we going to drop it or are we going to pass it on?"#MalcolmX #BlackHistoryMonth

People's Champ

As-Salaam Alaikum, For Black History Month:The oppression of the African American people in this country was facilitated in large part by a regime of racist terror that served to threaten the life of any "nigger" who did not know his "place." "Stay in your place boy," was a cruel warning to any African American man, young or old, who showed the slightest inclination to even think of challenging the racist status quo. The psychological slavery created by this system was broken down, in large part, by the fearless oratory of the likes of Malcolm X. Muhammad Ali was also a pioneering force in this regard. This poem is one of the best examples of Ali's courageous voice, and illustrates, for those who do not know, why he was and will always be, the "People's Champ!"Imam Zaid Shakir#BlackHistoryMonth #MuhammadAli #PeoplesChamp
