These tons of likes shared on social media are not really reflective of meaningful things. Here, I want to draw your attention to someone in the life of each and every one of us who has contributed so profoundly, who has done you so many favors; who has dedicated herself to helping you and serving you; that is your mother; and they are not getting that much attention from us.

Sometimes we deceive ourselves and we say ‘Hey, you know, every day is a mother’s day and we take care of our mothers on a regular basis.’ Unfortunately that is not true. In Islam, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta`ala expects us to show so much love and so much respect to our mothers.

I want again to bring this to your attention to take advantage of this Mother’s day to show a little love and a little gratitude to our mothers.

LIKE Is Not Enough

You go in Facebook and LIKE all the time, right? But when was the last time you said to your mother, ‘I love you,’ or ‘I appreciate the food you cook,’ or ‘I appreciate the things you have done to me?’

When was the last time you took your mother out on a date, for example; just one night or you take your mother and just eat dinner together?

When was the last time you decided to go and visit your mother; just sit with her and watch her favorite TV show or something like that?

When was the last time you decided to go to your mother’s kitchen and help her?

When was the last time you decided to go around the house and do some chorus and ease the burden on your mother just a little bit?

So, I invite you to seize this time of the year to show gratitude to your mother and to remember what the Prophet taught us about mothers: it was this young man who came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once and wanted to volunteer in the army. The Prophet asked him:”Is your mother still alive?

The man said, “Yes”

So,the Prophet said, “Go and stay next to her feet for Paradise lies therein.

So, the Prophet teaches us, all of us, men and women, that being in the business of serving our mothers; taking care of them and showing love and respect to them is our pathway to Jannah itself.

Verbalize It

I invite you to do that, brothers and sisters, not just by actions. Sometimes we say, ‘All of my actions are reflective of my love to my mother,’ but you really need to verbalize it; you need to articulate this love; you need to go and kiss your mother on the forehead and say, ‘Mom, I love you.’

I would like to be the first to show my love and appreciation to my mother on the occasion of the Mother’s Day. I would love to show her this:

‘Tons and ton of likes and tons and tons of love to you mom! I love you so much, happy Mother’s Day; may Allah Subahanhu wa Ta`ala bless you and give you a long life and good health. My greatest wish inshaa’ Allah is to be with you in Jannah. May Allah bless you! I love you so much.”
