No doubt supporting causes to help our brothers & sisters in Syria, Palestine, Iraq and Burma is the duty of every Muslim. At the same time, each one of us also has a duty towards our own people and the land in which we live in, to better the world around us. Involvement in one cause should not result in neglect of another, and different people should be involved in different causes.
Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was actively involved in the society of his time even though his society was not Muslim, and he was proud of that involvement as a Prophet, despite the fact that the causes that he got involved in were not purely ‘religious’ causes.
We must help Muslims around the globe, and at the same time, just like our Prophet stood against oppression and injusticein his non-Muslim society, we also need Muslim brothers and sisters who are at the forefront of their local humanitarian causes. These causes are also Islamic, since our religion asks us to eliminate poverty, racial abuse, child abuse, crime, injustice, and oppression.
As good responsible Muslims of our societies we should act locally but impact globally!
In this short video clip Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi revives the Prophetic legacy of doing Da`wah through one’s character and actions by being at the forefront of all noble humanitarian causes.
