Dhul-Hijjah 1st: Prophet’s Recommendation

The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are the best days of the year. They combine acts of worship in a way unlike any other time.

The Prophet informed us that Allah loves good deeds in them more than any time else.

Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

There is no virtue more to the liking of Allah in any day than in these days, that is, the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah. They (the Companions) asked: Messenger of Allah, not even the struggle in the path of Allah (Jihad) ? He said: (Yes), not even the struggle in the path of Allah, except a man who goes out (in the path of Allah) with his life and property, and does not return with any of them. (Abu Daud)

In another hadith, the Prophet urged Muslims to engage in tahlil (saying la illaha illa Allah) tahmid (saying Al-Hamdullilah) and takbir (saying Allahu akbar).

The example that the Prophet gave of the best deed in these ten days is dhikr (rembmrance of God)

So Why Dhikr?

Allah says in the Quran:

{Those who believe and whose hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah. Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort.} (Ar-Ra`d 13:28)

The Prophet (PBUH) said, “The similitude of one who remembers his Lord and one who does not remember Him, is like that of the living and the dead.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
