When it comes to one of the biggest or most auspicious nights of the entire year (Laylatul Qadr).
Allah says in the Quran:
The Night of Decree is better than 1000 months.
One night is better than 84 odd years. So what you need to know is on that night people are really wondering “what should we do?” It’s a powerful night for you and its just a few hours but in the eyes of Allah, it’s more valuable, more powerful than 1000 months.
So what should you do on that night? Well, we are fortunate that the companions were inquisitive starting with the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), the pure and the mother of the Believers, Aisha. She says:
“O messenger of Allah, if I to witness the Laylatul-Qadr what should I do. What is it that should I say?”
If we ask some scholars today in some parts of the world “what should I do?”, they will give you a whole list of things to do, make you tired… read this 1000 times, go and read the entire Quran, cover to cover, read this verse 5000 times… and they give you things that are extremely difficult.
If what they tell you comes from Allah and Prophet Muhammad, it’s valid… if it comes from Allah’s words, the teachings of Prophet Muhammad and the earliest of generation in that particular case, we will take it with its value, if not, we can discount it.
This is the most powerful night. And the Prophet is being asked by his beloved wife Aisha:
“What should I say?”
So the Prophet says:
Say: Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbu-l afuwa fa’fu anni (O Allah! You are most forgiving You love to forgive so forgive me.” (Al-Bukhari)
