Ronaldo Donates $1.5 Million to Palestinian Children

The Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly donated US$1.5 million to the people of Palestine during the backdrop of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, teleSUR.net reported.

The donation by the Juventus star striker is intended as a gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian people, especially those tormented by the Israeli blockade and siege of Gaza.

It is not the first time for the world superstar to support the Palestinian cause, as during the Israeli attack on Gaza in 2012, he auctioned off his Golden Boot to raise funds that were later donated to the Palestinian children.

Ahmad Daubasha, a 5-year-old boy who was the only survivor of a Palestinian family attacked by Israeli settlers, was received by Ronaldo in 2016 at the Real Madrid training center where he photographed himself with the boy and gave him a shirt dedicated especially to him.

In 2016, Ronaldo offered the children of Syria a message of hope, telling them that they are the true heroes in the sixth year of a bitter war.

In 2018, he called on the world to help Rohingya children living in refugee camps after fleeing death at the hands of Burmese forces late last year.

Ronaldo is not the only international superstar to support humanitarian causes.

In 2016, Argentine and FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi turned to Facebook to raise awareness about the suffering of Syria children.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba dedicated his goal against Newcastle in November 2017 to migrants sold as slaves in Libya, drawing the world’s attention to the deteriorating conditions in the African country.
