Young Muslim’s Guide to Modern Science

Professor Nidhal Guessoum wrote a book, tentatively named The Young Muslim’s Guide to Modern Science, which tries to harmonize the teachings of Islam with the study of modern science.

Guessoum is a professor of Physics and Astronomy at the American University of Sharjah in the UAE. He worked as a post-doctoral researcher at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

Guessoum has published several books on science with direct or indirect relevance to Islam. Moreover, he has published dozens of scholarly papers in astrophysics and numerous articles on science, education, and culture.

The new book addresses students who want to understand what modern science says; just to get the clearest and most correct information. Hence, you’ll be able to put these information into context of their Islamic background and education.

In fact, the Muslim astrophysicist doesn’t want students to lose the scientific path and wonder how this relates to them.

The new book is also trying to help in the education arena with the young generation. It tries to give them some reference that they can read and can benefit from and go back to. It tries to make sense of all these things at the same time.

In a nutshell, the book’s philosophy is based on harmonization between the religious teachings and the learning of modern science, without sacrificing one or the other. Check this video where Guessoum explains more about the philosophy of this book.
