A local mosque in South Ogden, Utah, will be opening its doors on Saturday, Oct 12, to foster ties with the broader community, Standard-Examiner reported.
“The idea is for the neighbors to know their Muslim neighbors and understand where they’re coming from,” said Mohammed Al-Tigar, president and chair of the Islamic Center of Kuwait in Utah, located in South Ogden.
“A lot of people don’t know who we are. It would be good for people to know us and us to know them.”
The mosque will open its doors from 11 am to 1:30 pm.
Moreover, visitors from Kuwait will address the gathering, answering their questions on Islam.
Al-Tigar said he would like to continue having open houses, depending on the sort of turnout on Saturday.
Building Bridges
Muslims across the world usually open mosque doors to guests to enable them to have a glimpse of Islamic faith.
For example, Visit My Mosque Day is held annually in a number of countries including Australia, the United Kingdom, Norway, and France.
About 250 mosques participated in this year’s event held last February, seeing growth from 200 mosques in 2018 and 150 mosques in 2017.
Earlier in September 2019, Muslims in Peoria, Illinois opened their mosque doors for a special event dubbed “Lunch with Your Neighbors”.
A local mosque in Antioch, Nashville, Tennessee, also held an open house in July for people of all faiths to help combat Muslim stereotypes and show people the true Muslims
