YONKERS – A leading American Muslim organization hosted on Saturday, August 25, an open day to offer vulnerable students preparing to get back to school new supplies.
Sunday’s event was sponsored by the Islamic Circle of North America, Lohud reported.
The Islamic charity was giving away 250 backpacks at the community center.
The Nepperhan Community Center event was the second of four giveaways in Yonkers, New Rochelle and Mount Vernon in which the charity plans to hand out a total of 1200 backpacks filled with school supplies.
It comes as part of a larger national drive, #OneNationOneCause, sponsored by ICNA Relief in its commitment to building stronger communities by empowering youth through education.
Nationwide 50,000 children will benefit from backpacks with school supplies distributed across more than 110 cities, with over 220 partners, in 35 states and Puerto Rico.
The next event will be held in New Rochelle on Sunday at the Islamic Center of New Rochelle.
