TEXAS – A leading American Muslim civil rights group called on the Muslim community to donate blood on Sunday, following news of San Antonio’s mass shooting in which more than 26 victims were killed.

“During times of tragedy and heartache, all Texans must, and will work together to help alleviate suffering and to offer material and spiritual support for one another,” Sarwat Husain, the president of San Antonio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-San Antonio), said in a statement sent to AboutIslam.

“We pray for the loved ones of those killed in this senseless attack and for the speedy recovery of the wounded.”

At least 26 people have been killed, including children, and 20 others were wounded after a gunman opened fire at a Texas church during Sunday’s service.

The attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, a small town in Wilson County. The victims’ ages ranged from five to 72.

The suspected gunman was later found dead in his vehicle some miles away.

After the shooting, US President Donald Trump called the Texas church shooting a “mental health problem at the highest level.”

Last month, a mass shooting spree from a 32nd-floor window of the Mandalay Bay hotel, on the Las Vegas Strip, killed at least 59 people before the gunman reportedly turned a weapon on himself.

That gunman, identified as Stephen Paddock, 64, had amassed an arsenal of high-powered weaponry, including 34 guns. Paddock left no immediate hint of his motive for the the carnage he inflicted on a crowd of 22,000 attending an outdoor country music festival.
