American Muslim boxer Julian Williams achieved a life dream on Saturday after defeating Jarrett Hurd to capture the WBA and IBF junior middleweight titles on Saturday night at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia, CBS Sports reported.
“First of all I just wanna say Alhamdulillah. I am just so blessed,” tearful Williams said after winning the title.
“Alhamdulillah, it’s the month of Ramadan. I just wanna say Ramadan Mubarak to all the Muslims out there.”

Afterward, a teary-eyed Williams, who was homeless at 13 and watched his mother battle drug addiction, was so overcome by emotion that he had trouble conducting the in-ring interview.
“They told me I was done, that I had no chin,” Williams said.
“Jarrett’s such a great fighter and he pushed me. I got so motivated because everybody was doubting me. I turned my Twitter off, I turned my Instagram off. I blocked out all the good stuff, I blocked out all the bad stuff. The boxing world, they make it seem like fighters take a loss and they can’t come back, and I just knew that wasn’t the case. Stop condemning fighters after they take a loss.”
Muslims in American are currently observing the holy month of Ramadan which started on May 6.
During fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking, and engaging in sexual relations.
The Islamic Shari`ah permits all things that are beneficial to the body and do not harm it, and it forbids all things that may cause damage or harm to the body.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Your body has rights over you.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, Kitaab al-Sawm, 1839)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.” Al Arba’een Annawaweeyah He also said, “When one of you inflicts a beating, he should avoid striking the face.” Sunan Abi Dawood
Therefore, many scholars consider boxing as haram as opponents hit each other in the face.
