MONTREAL – Montreal Maurice Richard hockey arena has been transferred into a place of remembrance and mourning for six Muslim men killed in Quebec mosque shooting last weekend, giving Montrealers a chance to show their support for the Muslim community.
“Montreal has always been fueled by diversity. It’s our strength, it’s part of our DNA,” Mayor Denis Coderre said, CBC reported on Wednesday, February 1.
“We all have a responsibility to make sure that everyone … feels like a full citizen.”
The doors were open to the public at 11:30 am and the service started at 1 pm.
In anticipation of a large turnout, Coderre advised people to use public transportation to get to the arena, located in the city’s east end.
In Quebec City, a funeral will be held Friday for Mamadou Tanou Barry, Ibrahima Barry and Azzedine Soufiane at the Quebec City convention center.
All six victims will be honored during the ceremony, which beings at 1 pm. with doors opening at 11 am.
