A leading American Islamic relief organization has announced a new initiative to distribute 2,000 backpacks and school supplies on the needy in different cities across the US.
“Join ICNA Relief’s #OneNationOneCause Back2School drives in over 35 states and Puerto Rico, in 250 cities, over 30 days to send a child to school with confidence,” the Islamic Circle of North America Relief (ICNA-Relief) wrote in a statement on its website.
“A new backpack and supplies gives children in struggling families the right head start.”
This year’s annual giveaway project, known as One Nation One Cause, is held for the 10th consecutive year.
The project was held for the first time in 2009, From July to September.
Over the past years, the group has provided much-needed supplies to people across the US.
“20 percent of American kids live in poverty. We know that our back to school efforts represent much more than just backpacks and supplies for these underprivileged kids,” Dr. Saima Azfar, Director, ICNA Relief Chicago, was quoted by Arab Daily News last month.
“It shows them that we care about their education and value them as the future leaders of our great nation.”
In last year’s event, 50,000 children benefited from backpacks with school supplies distributed across more than 110 cities, with over 220 partners, in 35 states and Puerto Rico.
