Muslim Chefs Celebrate Eid on British TV

For Saliha, the experience has been very different. “We had our second baby son day one of lockdown and we haven’t been able to see anyone at all for the last eight weeks. It’s been a bit of a tragedy in that sense. So I’m missing everyone and I hope we can connect with them virtually which is lovely.”

Saliha’s husband, Usman Ahmed, also a doctor, made a quick appearance.

“The unit I’m in, we’ve managed to discharge most of our patients on the ward now. Some have gone home which is incredible and I think it is just credit to everyone’s hard work in the NHS,” he said.

Also dialling in from home, Mo Farah shared “For me, growing up, that (`Eid) was the one day I would look forward to. Opening presents, going round my family’s house, just getting sweets…This time (in lockdown) has made us realize that as a human, no matter what we have, it’s all about friends and families.”

British  Masterchef winner, Nadiya Hussain shared a recorded message, “Because we are doing an `Eid in lockdown, I’m going the whole hog and cooking all the things that my kids love from Bangladeshi fritters to samosas to curry, we’re going to have a bbq, and cake!”

Closing Words

Saliha put on her doctor hat, “Please do remember that it is important to take care of everyone and observe social distancing. Many of the Black and Asian minority ethnic communities are affected badly by the coronavirus and we have to make sure we protect everyone.”

Matt, the show’s host closed, “What a fantastic morning, I’ve really really enjoyed myself. Thanks for giving me a little window into that (`Eid) world… Bye for now, and `Eid Muabarak!”
