HELSINGBORG – Three young Muslims have been widely praised in Sweden as heroes after arresing a thief who robbed an elderly woman in Helsingborg.
“After taking money from ATM on Kullagatan Street, my wallet was stolen by one person. I had a shock for two seconds first. Then I started screaming, ‘Catch Thief’,” Suzanne Skglöl wrote on social media, Turkish Telegraph reported on Wednesday, October 11.
As the woman cried for help, three Muslim residents Hassan al-Malli (18), Mohamed Kurdiya, (17) and Yousef Hamid (20) in Helsingborg, Sweden, intervened immediately, rushing to arrest the robber.
“My voice was heard by three young heroes. They ran fearlessly behind thief and grabbed him,” she said.
“They handed me my purse.”
The quick thinking and action by the three young Muslims won Swedish media praise, called “Heroes of Day” by the national press.
“Hassan El-Malli, Mohamed Kurdiya, and Yousef Hamid are heroes of my heart,” Skglöl concluded.
Muslims make up between 450,000 and 500,000 of Sweden’s nine million people, according to the US State Department report in 2011.
