LONDON – Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil spent £30,000 on a special-edition “Invincibles” Rolex watch during Arsenal’s annual charity fundraising ball, to support different charity causes.
Ozil was among the biggest contributors on Thursday evening at the Arsenal Foundation’s event, which raised a combined £442,734 to help fund a new coaching program in the Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan and Indonesia, The Sun reported.
Thierry Henry, a retired French footballer and former Arsenal player, thanks the playmaker of Turkish origin for his ‘generosity’ in a tweet shortly afterward and revealed it was all for a worthy cause.
Our donation of the number 14 watch raised £30k @AFC_Foundation foundation #NightToInspire. Many thanks @MesutOzil1088, immense generosity. Extremely worthy cause, I feel very proud that the money will help so many underprivileged and disadvantaged individuals. @Arsenal ????

Arsenal players and manager Arsene Wenger also combined to donate another £100,000 for projects ranging from coaching programs in refugee camps to local initiatives in North London.
Ozil’s expensive watch was part of an auction that also included boots from all squad members and a private training session with Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Sir Mo Farah was among the non-footballing famous faces in attendance at the Arsenal ball.
The 29-year-old German footballer plays for Arsenal and the Germany national football team.
Becoming a star from a young age, Özil has been a youth national team member since 2006, and a member of the German national team since 2009.
He gained international attention during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and was nominated for the Golden Ball Award, awarded to the tournament’s best player.
In 2013, the Berlin branch of Madame Tussaud’s museum unveiled a waxwork version of Özil.
At the age of 24 at that time, Özil became the youngest sportsman to figure in the Berlin museum.
Özil appears wearing his German national team strip and joins some of the country’s greatest players, including Franz Beckenbauer, Jurgen Klinsmann, and former goalkeeper Oliver Khan, as well as Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel in the museum.
