German School Girls Wear Hijab for Social Experiment

LÜNEN – A teacher at Geschwister-Scholl German school in Lünen, North Rhine-Westphalia, asked her six schoolgirls to wear hijabs as part of a social experiment to test whether German citizens would be racist towards them, Info Wars reported on November 19.

“It’s good because the ones I’ll put the headscarf on now will experience how it is to be on the street while wearing one,” the teacher, Katrin Eckermann expressed.

The participating students said that the hijabs made them feel more self-conscious as they were being watched.

“Celina Lebsack is one of the six girls who willingly volunteered for the experiment to wear a headscarf for the first time today,” she said.

“Older people looked at the girls with skepticism and when told about the social experiment responded by saying, ‘Stay out of here with that garbage’,” said Dominik Larsac, a male teacher who observed the experiment which lasted for an hour.

During the experiment, one of the girls expressed that she feels uncomfortable yet “more like respected,” she said.

Hijab in Germany

Based on Qur’an, hijab is a direct command from Allah the Almighty to Muslim women. It’s a must when the Muslim girl reaches puberty.

Several countries in Europe have passed laws banning some or all types of hijab in public or in certain types of locales. Women in different parts of the world have also experienced unofficial pressure to wear or not wear hijab.

Owing to labor migration in the 1960s and several waves of political refugees since the 1970s, Islam has become a visible religion in Germany. According to a national census conducted in 2011, 1.9% of Germany’s population, around 1.5m people, declared themselves as Muslim.

An estimate made in 2015 calculated that there are 4.4 to 4.7 million Muslims in Germany; 5.4–5.7% of the population. Of these, 1.9 million are German citizens (2.4%). According to the German statistical office, 9.1% of all newborns in Germany had Muslim parents in 2005.
