ZAGREB – Marking 100 years of Islam in Croatia, leaders of the country’s Muslim community have contacted local officials to make final preparations for the centennial jubilee of Islam in Croatia as an official religion.
According to Hina news agency, The Mayor of Zagreb, Milan Bandic, on Friday received a delegation of the Islamic Community in Croatia, led by Zagreb Mufti Aziz Hasanovic, to discuss preparations from the celebrations.
The celebration would include holding various events across Croatia, in areas with sizable Muslim community.
The capital, Zagreb, will be the venue of a tolerance concert that will be held in the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall on 22 April.
Other events in upcoming April will include a special ceremony on April 27 to commemorate 27 April 1917 when Croatian lawmakers declared Islam as an officially recognized religion in the country.
An exhibition of works by Muslim artists will be staged in the Mimara museum.
The capital would also host a conference of representatives of 50 Muslim communities in Europe, according to Mufti Hasanovic.
The celebrations, according to Mufti Hasanovic, stress the country’s multiculturalism and high standards in respecting religious and minority rights.
The Mufti asserted the commitment of the Muslim community to be a constructive factor in Croatian society, enjoying good relations away from the recent negative developments in Europe.
