Two Muslim men have been praised for their heroic act as they dived into a river in a bid to save an elderly man who had jumped from a Sydney bridge.
He unfortunately died at the scene as the men tried in vain to resuscitate him, Daily Mail reported.
The men waded into the Parramatta River in Silverwater in Sydney’s west at about 1.15 pm on Sunday when they saw the pensioner in the water.
The incident was captured in video footage showing the two men walking through water and grabbing the man to the shore.
“May Allah reward these two men who swam out to pull an old man that jumped off the bridge in Silverwater,” a caption on the video read.
The video has gone viral on social media, with many users praising the men’s actions.
“Bless these guys for swimming out to the man,” said one Facebook user.
“Well done to the brave men who jumped in,” said another.
“What legends going in there to help,” shared someone else.
Stories of brave Muslims are recurrent in the media.
Earlier this month, a Muslim student, Duaa Ahmad, opened the doors of her mosque as a shelter and helped more than 100 students flee a high school stabbing in Wisconsin.
A week earlier, a Muslim woman was hailed as “incredibly brave” for stepping in to confront a man over his anti-Semitic rant at a Jewish father and son on the London underground.
