MUSCAT – As spirituality reaches its peak during Ramadan, fifteen people have converted to Islam in Oman during this holy month, feeling the blessings of fasting and Qur’an.

“Through its various activities and programs in the Sultanate, the ‘Introduction to Islam and Cultural Exchange’ Department at the Ministry seeks to introduce people to Islam, and to correct the false image of the religion,” a representative of the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs told Times of Oman on Sunday.

“The Department has endeavored to raise awareness about Islam in non-Muslim communities residing in the Sultanate.”

Converts from different nationalities pronounced their shahada or declaration of faith during the annual Ramadan event held t Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs, saw a wide participation from non-Muslim community in Oman, including a number of ambassadors and dignitaries.

The guest speaker in the event was Muslim preacher Khalid Yassin from the United States, who praised Oman for its role in dissemination of true Islam.

The event also featured questions and answers session with the audience, about Islam and its message.

Event staff also offered a hijab wearing tutorial for non-Muslim women, along with commemorative photos.

Ramadan is the holiest month in Islamic calendar.

In Ramadan, adult Muslims, save the sick and those traveling, abstain from food, drink, smoking and sex between dawn and sunset.

Muslims dedicate their time during the holy month to become closer to Allah through prayer, self-restraint and good deeds.

Around the globe, Muslims observe Ramadan with a set of traditional rituals including family gathering at iftar, religious lessons, special evening prayer and helping the poor, Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
