Allah (SWT) is The Forgiver. “Al-Ghafour” is one of His names.
Allah has ended many verses in the Qur’an with this name together with His name Al-Raheem, i.e. the One who shows mercy.
He forgives all sins when a believer repents to Him.
In the previous video in this series, brother Mohamed Abotaleb reflected on Allah’s name Al-Azeem, The Most Great, and here he continues his reflections on this name Al-Ghafour, which is a name dear to all of us, as it reminds us of Allah’s mercy.
The root of this word in the Arabic language is to cover or to shield and protect.
So the meaning is His forgiveness is a cover and a shield for our sins and wrongdoings.
Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an:
“Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”” (39:53)
