When we are faced with unbearable pain, we can start thinking how much longer can I go on? Why bother living if it is this painful This is called black and white thinking.
We believe that we must get rid of all pain as soon as we go through it. Pain is actually the grey area of black and white thinking. The grey area or the pain is actually where growth can be. So whilst we shouldn’t self-inflict pain on ourselves, it is important to grow because of the pain we feel.
When we learn to tolerate the discomfort then that is when we start to grow. We can then take the pain and make our life worth living. We can take the negative things that are happening and let them drive us forward.
