The ideal Islamic wedding is a very simple affair and we need to remember that it is a religious ceremony and not a social function.
Today we are seeing Muslim weddings become more and more extravagant and further from the sunnah than ever before. Families are inviting hundreds of guests, having mixed receptions with music and dancing and sisters are abandoning correct hijab for that day.
If we want our marriage to be successful we need to stay within the limits of what is halal and keep it simple.
A’isha (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “The most blessed marriage (nikah) is the one with the least expenses.” (al-Bayhaqi in his Shu’ab al-Iman & Mishkat al-Masabih).
