Dealing with Islamophobia: Lesson from Allah

An excellent reminder by Dr. Yasir Qadhi that Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, when he was in Makkah also was dealing with Islamophobia.

How did Allah (SWT) guide him to deal with it?

Verses from the Qur’an were revealed when Muslims were being persecuted in Makkah, the first Islamophobia, where Allah (SWT) says:

“We know that you, [O Muhammad], are saddened by what they say. And indeed, they do not call you untruthful, but it is the verses of Allah that the wrongdoers reject.”
(6:33)

It’s completely fine to feel hurt … It’s human to feel hurt…

When people say nasty things to us, it’s normal to feel hurt.

And that is what Allah (SWT) says to the Prophet, peace be upon him: We know it hurts, in Chapter 15.

“And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say. So exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him]. And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death).” (15:97-99)

So when you feel that distress, always praise Allah (SWT), fall down in sajdah and pray, and continue to worship Allah until the end of your life.

So the number one way to alleviate this pain is to open up a channel of communication with Allah (SWT). Praise Allah, make du’aa to Allah, and continue to worship Allah.

When the world seems to hate you, know that Allah (SWT) loves you.

So the Prophet, peace be upon him, is being told as the animosity increases, you should increase your relationship with Allah.

And this is an explicit verse: as Islamophobia goes up, so should our connection with Allah. This will calm us down, this will bring us the courage and the patience to withstand all that is happening around us.

If we don’t have Allah we have nothing, and if we have Allah we don’t need anything else.

So just ignore their hatred, you are in your bubble of worship, just keep on going…
