Convert Story: Hardship after Becoming a Muslim

Becoming a Muslim is a big decision and changes a lot of things in our lives. Indeed it is overwhelming and it opens a whole new world, alhamduleelah.

Converts to Islam have to go through changes that will impact the people around them and it usually starts by their families and friends.

Sister Destinee is sharing with us what happened post Islam. Masha’Allah her family supported her, but her friends and colleagues have shown a face she didn’t know.

As an example when she would go out, people would say to her:“I’m not gonna go out with you! You look like a terrorist!”

As well people would comment on her clothes or make degrading jokes.

In fact Muslims, converts or born-Muslims have gone through similar experiences.

In a nutshell she explains how media has damaged us and the people around us.

Knowing that, she understands how difficult it is for our friends and families to react positively.

Indeed, it is always a challenge for our beloved to get along with some of our new habits.

Furthermore, Sister Destinee explains how she realized the amount of discrimination born Muslims had to face because of their origins (aka names).

Let‘s give our sister Destinee some comfort and good vibes,

You can go and comment on her youtube videos to share your experiences or simply welcome her.

May Allah keep us united, ameen.
