Should Muslims celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Or is it absolutely prohibited in Islam?
Some Muslim countries have a ban on Valentine’s Day, while some Muslims elsewhere have no problem in celebrating Valentine’s Day on February 14th.
So which is the right answer?
Dr. Shabir Ally, President of the Islamic Information Center in Toronto, Canada, reflects on this topic and answers the question “Can Muslims celebrate Valentine’s Day?”.
He makes a clear distinction between what is haram in Islam, i.e. love in illegal relationships, and between halal love between married couples.
He also looks at what is good and leaves what is bad. If there is something good outside the Muslim community we don’t refuse it all together.
