Can men and women joke together in Islam? There are general guidelines in Islam when it comes to gender interaction. There shouldn’t be any flirting in any form. Flirting through words, gestures and the way you ask questions is absolutely not allowed. 

We are also not allowed to speak to the opposite gender in a seductive way. Any jokes that are sexual are definitely not allowed between a man and a woman. 

So what about casual conversation? As long as the hearts are clean and as long as there is nothing suspicious around it, there is nothing in your heart for this person, then it is OK. It should be based on respect and what is acceptable.
