When the Prophet’s son Ibrahim passed away, the Prophet (pbuh) was not there. When he returned from his journey he found Ibrahim had died. He cried. A companion asked him “Oh messenger of Allah even you are crying, doesn’t crying negate the acceptance of the Qadr of Allahs will, how is it possible you are crying?” The messenger replied that crying is a mercy from Allah, the eyes will shed tears and the heart will grieve but the tongue will only utter what pleases Allah.
There are 12 habits which will make us emotionally intelligent. One is the speak about our feelings. This is especially important nowadays when rates of anxiety and depression are on the rise all over the world.
Another habit is to learn to take a step back. Before you speak, before you react and before you act take time to pause and think is the response rational.
