How do you define extravagance in Islam?
What is considered by Muslims as too extravagant?
Brother Nouman Ali Khan answers these questions and starts in this video by explaining a misunderstood hadith, when Lady Fatimah, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), complained of heavy housework, and asked if she could have someone to help her around the house.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) told her of a du’aa to say that is better than having a servant, and some people misinterpret this hadith.
In the modern context of today, what is the difference between a good life and an extravagant life?
Is this life cursed? And should people not enjoy a good life? Extravagance is not the same for everyone and Allah doesn’t demand that you live an austere lifestyle either.
