Q:

Assalamu Alykum Worahmatullahi Wobarakatuhu. During this lockdown, many people who have wealth are helping other who haven’t money and food to help thier lives. I thought it may be haram for muslim to recieve from christians or other religion followers the donation.
So, can we recieve other religion’s charity or not?

Wa alaykum assalamu wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.

It is permissible to accept gifts and donations from non-Muslims as long as this involves no subordination, humiliation or submission to them as a consequence. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted gifts sent to him by al-Muqawqis (ruler of Egypt) and the Byzantine Caesar of his time and both were non-Muslims.

Q:

Asslam-o-alaikum!

I hope you are well by the grace of Allah Almighty. Can you kindly explain me the meaning of Surah Al-Imran Verse no. 14? I am really confused. All the translations I have read have objectified women. And that women are only here to give pleasure to men. How can Allah objectify one of the genders? I do not believe that so kindly clear that to me. May Allah bless you!

A:

Wa alaykum assalamu wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.

Verse number 14 of surat Aal-Imran can be interpreted as “Made fair-seeming to people are [their] beloved desires- as to women, and [begetting] sons, and heaped up piles of gold and silver, and well-bred horses, and cattle, and tillage. That is the mere enjoyment of the life of this world. Yet with Allah is the most excellent resort.” (3:14)

If women were objectified by the verse, sons would be objectified too; which is not true and has nothing to do with the purpose of the verse. The verse unmistakably speaks about the worldly desires that dominate the minds and hearts of the majority of people and divert them from the real purpose of their creation.

It is a warning against being tempted by these worldly beloved desires, since better alternatives are awaiting in the Hereafter as the next verse reads, “Say: Shall I tell you of something [far] better than this, [reserved] for those who are God-fearing? They shall have Gardens [of Paradise] with their Lord, beneath which rivers flow, wherein they shall abide forever- along with spouses, ever pure, and the good pleasure of Allah. And Allah is all-seeing of [all His] servants.” (3:15)

Q:

I wanted to know if it’s okay to take my medication . I have ADHD and I’m a college student , without my medication , it becomes very difficult for me, not only in college but life in general . I have fasted before without my medication because I was unaware I had ADHD, and fasting wasn’t difficult, but my life was difficult. My medication needs to be license by a doctor to proscribe and before a doctor can even give me a medication , I need to first get a evaluation by psychologists to verify that I have ADHD . And sometimes I need to bring identification to my pharmacy to be allowed to get that medication that was prescribed to me because ADHD medication is very popular to exploit. My medication has helped my life tremendously. Am I allowed to use my medication during Ramadan ?

After searching and consulting a number of physicians, I came to the result that ADHD is not usually an excuse to constantly break fasting during the daytime of Ramadan. A patient can adjust times of taking medication to be at night and before dawn avoiding the daytime of fasting. One may experience mild difficulty in the beginning but will get accustomed soon. Still you may break fasting, when suffering unbearable difficulty and/or is advised by a trustworthy Muslim psychologist to do so.

Q:

When I wear retainers and I rinse my mouth, even if I spit out water sometimes there is water that remains either under the retainers or in my mouth. Will swallowing that invalidate the fast because it’s impossible to get rid of it completely?

A:

In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Mercy-Giving.

Islam is the religion of ease. Rinsing one’s mouth is required for wudu (ritual ablution) and is generally permissible while fasting during Ramadan as long as one can control the water. Traces of water that may remain after the rinsing process do not affect one’s fasting, since one has already spitted out the water and it is quite impossible to make sure that one has spitted out every particle of it.  This applies to such traces of water that may be kept by retainers as well, as long as one has done his best to get rid of it. Allah (Exalted is He) says in the Quran what means, “Nor has He placed on you any [undue] strain in [your] religion.” (Al-Hajj 22:78)

Q:

When going to pray a prayer, sometimes I uncontrollably pass gas in wudu. I suffer from waswasa but I can separate the was wasp and real gas in this situation. When I pass gas uncontrollably I am forced to redo my wudu and I hope to uncontrollably pass gas again so I am excused from the ruling that passing gas nullifies your Wudu. But when I make it to praying with my Wudu, I am constantly worried about passing gas and most times I pass gas in prayer. It takes me long to make Wudu so this causes me not to want to pray. The uncontrollable gas is not always consistent throughout all prayer times Eg I am excused for zuhr, do not pass gas for asr, and then pass gas for Maghreb. This is extremely difficult and annoying and I take long for Wudu so it damages my skin.

I would advise you first to seek medical examination to find out whether you suffer from gas incontinence. Such incontinence grants you an excuse. In this case you have to make wudu (ritual ablution) after the commencement of the time of each Prayer and then start praying. Whatever gas you pass during Prayer is pardonable and your Prayer is valid.

If medical examination proves that you do not have gas incontinence, then you are suffering from haunting waswash (satanic whispers), which I believe most likely to be the case. The cure from this waswash is prescribed in a prophetic direction given to a man who had the same complaint of feeling as if something would come out of his bowels while praying. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbad him to leave the Prayer “unless he hears a sound or perceives a smell.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

The Prophetic injunction requires one to disregard such whispers cast by the Satan. This is the best way to overcome this hardship. It may be difficult in the beginning but will become easy by time. It is the Satan who comes every time and cast these doubts in your mind to reach the result you mentioned in your question; that is, to dislike the whole process of making wudu‘ and performing Prayer. This is the essence of your problem and the solution is as easy as mentioned in the Prophetic statement. Just ignore such whispers and enjoy your Prayers.

Allah knows best.

Q:

Assalamualaykum, my dautgher recently got married her name is TASNIM during her nikah time movlana took her name TASLIM, so intead of N he said L in her name. Is her nikah is completed? Or do we need to performe agian? Zazakallah

As long as the bride is recognized and known to the bridegroom and the witnesses of the marriage contract, such verbal mistakes are forgivable. One fiqh maxim dictates that “what matters in contracts are intentions and substances – not words and forms.”

Q:

Is the correct way of praying the third rakaat of isha since I saw it online?

Bismillah, Alhamdu , Bismillah , surah , alahu akbar, Dua qunoot

Then when going into ruku not saying alahu akbar?

A:

I wonder where you got this information from.

The third rak`ah (Prayer unit) of `Isha Prayer bears no difference from other rak`ahs. They are all the same. There is no qunout (supplication) before ruku` (bowing) in the third rak`ah and ruku` should be preceded by saying Allahu akbar.

Q:

Is it lying if ylu are crying and your mother asks you whats wrong and you say nothing do i get the si of lying to my parents

If you are not telling the truth, this is lying. In such situations, one can avert lying by using words of general and broad meanings, metaphorical expressions, divert the course of the dialogue, deflecting the questions, and the like techniques.

It is well understood that you do not want to hurt your mother or make her worry; but still you can achieve this noble goal through a better and legitimate way.

Q:

Assalam Alaikum. My co-brother in law has passed away and left behind his wife and two kids. My question is do I have any responsibility towards their living expenses having known that her in laws are not taking care of the family and there is none from her parent’s side financially strong enough to support her.

please guide me. Jazakallahu khairan.

In principle, you are not responsible for your in-laws or their families. Still you are strongly recommended to help and support them financially as long as you can. The Quran promises abundant rewards for those who spend charitably in the path of Allah. It says what means “The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the path of Allah is as the likeness of a grain that sprouts seven spikes. In every spike, there are a hundred grains. Thus does Allah multiply [reward] for whomever He so wills. And Allah is all-encompassing, all-knowing. Those who spend their wealth in the path of Allah- then do not follow up what they have spent [in charity] with boastful reminders, or any harm- they shall have their reward with their Lord [in full]. And there shall be no fear upon them [when they assemble for Judgment]. Nor shall they ever grieve.” (Al-Baqarah 2:261-262)

Q:

I’ve seen so many fatwas saying that looking at nudity in the mirror ( reflection ) is not like the real life . So it’s not haram and it’s completely fine . And i have trust in you and wanted to know if that is true

A:

In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Mercy-Giving.

All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad.

I do not think a real Muslim scholar would issue such a fatwa. If looking at a nude person is prohibited, it makes no difference whether one is looking directly at their physical body, their reflection on a mirror, or their photos. In all cases, such nudity arouses the watcher’s sexual desire and usually instigates a series of sexual thoughts and imaginations.  Islam aims to purify the hearts of its followers to create a society of chastity and modesty by blocking all means to illicit sexual activities.

These programs which have access to your data and use your cams can easily be breached and used for spying. Besides, these programs usually keep records of chats and conversation, which can also be retrieved by intruders. This means that chats with your wife are not a hundred percent safe from encroachment and intrusion and you are not in inviolable privacy.

Therefore, a wife may not expose her nakedness in front of webcams to please her husband.  This is based on one of the principles of Islamic jurisprudence, which is the principle sadd al-Dhara’i` (blocking means to evil). Besides, this practice will not satisfy your desires but, on the contrary, will add more fuel to the fire.

May Allah protect your chastity and bashfulness.
