Session is over.

Asalamu Alaykum. In islam is is actually haram and sinful to overeat or is it makruh? I have a problem right now with my stomach. Most people wake up in the morning and are hungry for breakfast. But when I wake up I feel full. Most people are hungry for dinner at night, but even then I feel full. My stomach constantly feels full even when I haven't ate anything. I've been to the doctor about my problems and they said it's due to trapped gas and other problems like this. I was given medicine and everything but it hasn't really helped the fullness feeling in my stomach yet. So my question is, until the medicine starts to work Insha Allah, would it be okay for me to still eat even though I constantly feel full? Like I said I know I've heard it's haram to eat when one already feels full but I don't know what to do in my case since I always have this feeling. I know that in Islam you're only supposed to eat when you're actually hungry but it's so hard to tell when I'm hungry because of this constant sense of fullness in my stomach. Most of the time I can't tell if I just desire food because it looks tasty or because I'm actually hungry. If I eat a meal during the day such as a subway sandwich and chips I feel like I've ate too much and I get really sad and feel like I've disobeyed Allah. I try to only eat three meals a day or maybe more than that but small meals. Nothing too much. But I still feel like I'm disobeying Allah by eating when I'm full. I feel like I have waswas about eating. Please help.

In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Mercy-Giving

All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad.

There is no problem for a Muslim to eat to his full. This is based on the report of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who was offered to drink milk by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) who said to him, ‘Abu Hurairah, drink.’ So he drank, then he said: ‘Drink.’ Abu Hurayrah kept drinking and he kept on saying, ‘Drink.’ Then he said: ‘By the One Who sent you with the truth! I have no more space for it.’ So he took the bowl and praised Allah, mentioned His Name and drank.’” (Al-Bukhari)

The Prophet’s approval of Abu Hurayrah’s doing is an evidence that it is permissible to eat and drink to one’s full stomach.

However, it is preferable that one does not indulge in excessive habits of overeating or drinking in a way that may affect his practice of regular supererogatory services such as praying at night or fasting on Mondays and Thursday.

Moreover, Ibn Al-Qayyim warns against health problems arising from eating too much by saying, “Material illnesses arise from an increase of matter which comes to a point of excess in the body whereby it harms its natural functions – and these are the most common illnesses. They are caused by consuming more food before the previous meal has been properly digested; by eating in excess of the amount needed by the body; by consuming food which is of little nutritional value and is slow to digest; and by eating different foods which are complex in their composition. So when a person fills his belly with these foods and it becomes a habit, they cause him various diseases…” (At-Tibb An-Nabawi, p. 20; Medicine of the Prophet, ITS, p. 13.)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) is reported as saying, “The human being can fill no container worse than his belly. Sufficient for the son of Adam are so many morsels of food as will keep his spine upright. But if he must eat more, then a third for his food, a third for his drink and a third for his breath.”

Therefore, one should have a moderate and balanced system of food and drink in a way to help him/her does his/her duties without causing health problems.

Assalamu alaikum, I have mental illness. One doctor said I haved schizophrenia and one said I have schizo affective disorder. I feel sometimes guilt for my sins. But mostly the guilt is long after I sin. I asked whether I have excuse for my sins. Scholar told me that the fact you feel guilty after sinning shows that you are not excused. If I feel guilt long after I sin does it still mean that I am not excused? Should I repent for such sins?

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad.

Having a feeling of being guilty all the time is sometimes a sign of the acceptance of your repentance, because it keeps one cautious of not committing further sins.

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, ‘And those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear.” [23:60] Is this the one who commits adultery, steals and drinks alcohol?’ He said: ‘No, O daughter of Abu Bakr’ – O daughter of Siddiq – rather it is a man who fasts and gives charity and prays, but he fears that those will not be accepted from him.’”

But one should not overestimate this feeling if it causes him/her to desperate the mercy of Allah. If one has a deep feeling that he is not excused by Allah, he may indulge more in committing sins. A Muslim must strike a balance between having proactive fear from his lord and getting hope in His mercy.

You should also make sure that Allah rewards you immensely for your illness.

Abu Sa’id and Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with them) reported that the Prophet  said: “Never a believer is stricken with a discomfort, an illness, an anxiety, a grief or mental worry or even the pricking of a thorn but Allah will expiate his sins on account of his patience”. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Assalamu alaikum, We are staying in my grandfathers compound. On one end two uncles have their houses and on the other end we are staying. Each of these houses have its own compound wall. So when we move out of the gate we are still inside the compound. Stray dogs come to the compound and think that it is their compound. They are barking at us. And it is scary even when they are not barking. They ate hens in the neighborhood. Can we throw stones at them? Can we pray to kill them? Jazak Allahu khayr

If those dogs are vicious and harmful, you can drive them away by all means possible. It is also permissible to kill those vicious dogs in case you do not have a legal liability.

It was narrated from Aishah that the Messenger of Allah said: “There are five kinds of vermin which may be killed out and inside the sanctuary of Mecca: Crows, kites, vicious dogs, scorpions and mice.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Assalamu alaikum, I heard that by any affliction some of the sins are forgiven. So if I have an illness does it mean that there are still some sins left not forgiven? Jazak Allahu khayr

Any affliction that a Muslim experience in his life does expiate his/her sins provided that he/she shows patience and endurance.

The name has two meanings: It means kind or merciful in Arabic but it is also the name of a Persian god. I suggest you avoid this name completely. There are many other names which are more beloved to Allah such as Abdullah or Abdur-Rahman.

A salaam aleikum warakumatulah wabarakatuh. Thanks for answering our questions. I am married for 2 years now, but just realised that l didn't take the necessary procedures before the Nikkah happened. I was leaving with my the woman am married to unlawfully as not per Islamic requirements (with Nikkah first) and had two kids in such situation. Then we wanted to make it Islamic with Nikkah but we didn't separate for 3 months first. The reason is because we didn't know it was necessary and the sheikh who performed the Nikkah also didn't make us aware of that requirement. Now 2 years after Nikkah we find out that we missed that step. What is the ruling of our Nikkah? Thanks.

Is standing during National Anthem shirk.. I watched dr Israr's video in which he defines it as shirk... So my question is this what about those who have to do this as the part of their duties for eg. Assemblies in School college etc.. Are they doing shirk..??

It is not permissible for a Muslim to stand up for any national anthem, nor any national flag out of respect. Rather, this is from the evil innovations which did not exist at the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), nor at the time of the Rightly Guided Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with them). And this action negates the obligation of the completeness of Tawheed, and the purity of respect for Allah alone, and leads to polytheism. Moreover, it is an imitation for the disbelievers. The Prophet (peace be upon him) prohibited resembling and emulating them.

Almighty Allah knows best.

I dont know for sure if I have asked you this, but my father told me: "Even if you dont want to perform prayers, that,is fine but you will become a very weak Muslim, but if you want to perform prayers then that is more than excellent". I do try to recite almost every night "Istakhara" and also chapter The Purity with intention of getting my sins wiped away no matter what type they are, whether it is disbeelief or I dont know. I do also recite with intention of getting to recite the Islamic shahada at my death time just as mercy and forgiveness. I try to stay away from listening from music, but hoenstly I am unable to do this, because I just got some types of music which I enjoy listening such as: Rock, Rock and Roll, Electronik and Pop(rarely), I still having a question in mind whether it is sinful or not what I do, because I dont want to find out that I made this sin, can you please codify this issue which I am dealing? Because, still I cant understand. And, I'm not listening to music just to disobey God, I am listening just because I like enjoy myself a little bit. And of course, I dont have the intention of disobeying God. I also do have strong fear for the Day of Judgment, and especially death. And even if I,may not be sincere in repetence, I still do repentence until I feel that I am sincere, because I am having also problems with knowing whether I am sincere or not, but I have strong wish of getting my repetence accepted whethet is sincere or not(I am saying like this because I have doubts about myself and I am unsure whether I am sincere or not), I also try to make Dua for halal things, such as to have the newest Iphone and Ipad, telekinesis(which I dreamt of having) and also the ability and power of reciting shahada at my death cursivily and even to answer all 3 grace questions correctly and also I make Dua for having a peaceful and wonderful grave, so that I can rest in peace. I also make Dua for reversal of time, because it is heavy knowing that we are all going to that Day, and I fear a lot that Day, and I wish this so that new divine laws and legislations can appear to the point where I can easily acocomdate and follow easily God's orders, because now I am having difficulties on performing prayers due to my strong laziness and I am really scared, and I need a second type of obligatory prayer which does not require ablution nor movements, but only to be recited in my mind, if this would happen I would be very grateful and happy boy, because like this I can say "I dont have excuse for delaying prayers", and also in actual one when I want to pray, weird feelings started to appear that made me to delay and I am scared of this. but still I dont make this Dua just to commit disbelief, I make this Dua so that I can easily become a pious believer. Am I really a true Muslim? Please tell me, I still having doubts about myself.

Thank you for your question. You have some worries about your belief which sounds good. You need to develop your sense of God-consciousness and avoid all sins as much as possible by putting all trust in Allah and seeking His help and support sincerely.

Delaying prayer after its due time without having a valid excuse is a major sin. Similarly, listening to Music is a sin. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said “From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful” (Al-Bukhari) and as such many scholars argue that all musical instruments are haram.

Moreover, listening to songs including all kinds of music – as referred to in the question – is prohibited), both for men and women and whether they are in their houses or elsewhere, such as in cars or in public and private gatherings. Allah (Exalted be He) says, “And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, or the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire).

Yesterday, when I listened to one of Islamic lectures about Judgment Day, I realised that the Day of Judgment will come faster and it is a promise from God and God will never change His Promise. When I noticed this, I got extremely angry knowing that my Dua for reversal of time it is just a sign of lusthood. Before I went to sleep in state of intens anger, my Christian mother came and sit with me and she asked "why dont you listen to your parents who taught you that music is halal? Why dont you listen that also at the time of Prophet the Muslims used musical intruments and also their voice as a sign for joy that they heard that Islam is completed?". And I replayed her: "No no, stop. my Muslim father is just a deciever who wants me to fall into sin by listening to music and you are the same. I am not gonna listen to you anymore, this is over". And this day I have woke very angry, because I looked at the clock that it is almost 8 when I supposed to go to school early, then I started to insult time very bad. And so, from this day my life went upside down and I also felt heartbreaken knowing that my mother will be in Hell for eternity. I have a second aunt who is a true good Muslim and my second grandmother is also a true Muslim and also died in state of true belief, while me no. I am very unlucky and very jealous that I dont have, and my Muslim cousins have and I feel deeply regretful. I have tried to pray for their guidance, but no answer came yet and I feel like they are never gonna be Mulsims, and they will die as Christians. I cannot leave with the idea that half from my family will go to Heaven, I want all of them including me. I have also called today my mother that she is an evil demon shaped into a human, and because she gives me all types of lies about Islam, that I have invented the legislations that it is haram to listen to music, I have invented while I'm trying to make her believe that it is not invented, it is created by God. I also revealed to her that one of the reasons I strongly want reversal of time, is because I want for God To Make Heaven be for People of Scriptures and Muslims, so that there will be no more fighting and arguing, and my mother asks me: "do you thibk that God discriminates us?" and I said: "thats how I feel" because He Decreed that Heaven is only for Muslims and not also for People of Scriptures too, and she tells me that I am wrong. And out of intens anger, I told her "you are my enemy as long you as you stay in this filthy and lier religion Christianity. And I would stop being you enemy as long as you accept for once Islam". And then she told me "spare me with your Islam". Now, I simply wish for God To Make me die in 2019 during Ramadan with shahada on my lips and with forgiveness for whatever sin I made. So that I can have a nice and a wonderful death and graveyard. Because, I cannot go on in future, I hate this life, I dont like to live anymore. This life is only a prison with full of restrictions, I cannot go on. So, I wonder, it is permissible in Islam for me wish for this kind of death? Or, it is still haram? Please tell me, because my life is upside down, I hate this life, nobody understands me.

I have some notes on your message:

It is not proper to mistreat your parents even if they are not Muslims. You must show them respect and kindness. You must ask Allah to guide them to the straight path and try to invite them to the path of Allah wisely. You do not have to obey them in case they invite you to disbelieve in Allah or commit a sin. What you did for your mother by calling her a demon is a major sin. You must repent to Allah and ask for her forgiveness.

You do not know how life will end with your mother. She may accept Islam and be eternally destined for the heavens. You must keep making duaa for her and invite her wisely along with you father. You must give the a brilliant impression about Islam and Muslims.

A Muslim must not wish to die. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “None of you should wish for death. If he is righteous, perhaps he may add to (his) good works, and if he is a sinner, possibly he may repent (in case he is given a longer life).” (Al-Bukhari)

Assalamu Alaikum, Ever since I learned about the possibility of a woman’s discharge her nullifying wudu, I have been confused myself and my prayers have not been as easy going as they used to be. I try to make a new wudu for each obligatory prayer because I fear that is the only way it can be considered valid, but it is extremely difficult for me. I have read various notable sites on the matter where there are many different answers, and where questions on this matter have already been answered many times over, however I have compiled very specific questions which require an answer, pertaining to the differing opinions on the matter and to how we can be affected in different ways when we have discharge as it can vary. I believe answers to these specific questions would allow myself and many sisters to finally have clarity on the matter of discharge and wudu, InshaAllah. Some say that a woman’s discharge which is pure/ white or clear and not discolored or mixed with blood does not nullify her wudu, because it is normal. Some say the discharge akin to sweating does not nullify wudu, but I am not sure if they are referring to the same type of discharge as the first one which I mentioned. Then some make distinctions and say that only a woman’s discharge which is produced beyond the vagina nullifies it, while some say that her discharge which is produced both in the vagina and beyond it (from the uterus) nullifies the wudu, while differing in opinion of whether or not the cervix is beyond the vagina to nullify it. Then some say that if a woman emits discharge (similar to releasing gas), that her discharge nullifies her wudu even if it is tahir/pure discharge and furthermore that if her discharge is rather continuous, (similar to a woman with irregular bleeding) then it does not invalidate her wudu but she would have to do a new wudu at the time that each obligatory prayer begins. 1. Firstly, how do we know if our discharge is pure or not? And what if when our period ends our discharge is yellow but not white? 2. Secondly what is the discharge that is akin to sweating, is it the pure discharge which comes out white/clear usually with a runny consistency, or is it just the moisture/ sweat that comes out with similar consistency to sweat anywhere else on the body, when a woman may be hot in that area? 3. How is a woman supposed to know whether her discharge is produced inside the vagina or beyond it? 4. Secondly does this distinction of where the discharge is produced even matter? — meaning is my wudu valid for me to keep as long as I see that my discharge is clear and white and not discolored/during my period? And in that case assuming I would not have to renew it in times of difficulty such as when I am outside the house as some have said, where it is recommended to renew the wudu if we can, then what if I am home but yet I am still having difficulty renewing my wudu each time — would I also be able to keep my wudu then? 5. Or does a woman’s discharge nullify her wudu in all cases regardless of where it is produced and regardless of its purity(with the only exception of the discharge being both pure and continuous)? If it is the case that a woman’s discharge nullifies her wudu in all cases even regardless of its purity (with the exception of it being both pure and continuous) 1. Does this mean that a woman that has continuous discharge has to make new wudu after (and not before) the time that each of her five daily prayers comes, everyday for as long as her discharge is continuous? While being able to maintain the validity of her wudu and being able to pray any Sunnah prayers she wants to or to read Quran etc, in between those times before a new prayer comes? 2. Does this mean that a woman who has discharge which is not continuous has to renew her wudu every time she sees discharge, in the same way you renew your wudu after releasing gas? 3. Is it permissible for me to renew my wudu without cleaning or wiping the discharge? 4. What if I am not sure that I have discharge, because some days it is there and some days it is not (in other words sometimes the discharge can be continuous for a few days such as in the time right after a woman has ended her period, and some days it is not continuous yet present, and some days it is not present at all? What do I do in these cases? Is it permissible to switch between : not having to renew my wudu until the time for prayer on the days my discharge is consistent, and renewing my wudu only when I see discharge, on the days it is not consistent yet present, and being able to keep my wudu for more than one prayer on days I have no discharge at all (assuming I don’t nullify my wudu in other ways such as passing gas)? 5. If there may be discharge inside the vagina but it does not exit the labia (whether labia minora or labia majora) for me to be able to see it on my underwear, (meaning if there might be discharge inside but I don’t see it or know of it) then is my wudu valid, and would I be able to use it for more than one prayer as normal? 6. If I am outside or not able to make new wudu at the time of prayer when I have discharge that requires me to renew my wudu, then what should I do ? — and will my prayers count if I wait to make them up when I am able to do wudu? 7. Assuming I have continuous discharge which requires me to renew my wudu at the time each fard prayer has come.........., If I have to make up for more than one prayer which I missed (for example Dhurr and Asr) while it is still in the prescribed time for Asr, but then the time for Maghrib comes after I’ve already done wudu and while I am making up those two prayers — in that case do I make up the dhurr and asr prayer with the same wudu first then afterwards make a new wudu and pray maghrib, or if in that time I am making up the Dhurr prayer and have not yet made up the asr prayer when the time for Maghrib suddenly comes, do I make the new wudu after making up the dhurr prayer and then pray the Asr and Maghrib prayer with my new wudu? Or can I just use my initial wudu for all three prayers including Maghrib, even if I made that wudu before the time for Maghrib came? May Allah forgive me if I have spoke in error. InshaAllah someone will be able to answer all of my many questions according to Quran and Sunnah, clearly and in a manner that is easy to understand so that I, and hopefully many sisters, can finally have clarity on the discharge matter. I hope that you will be able to make this answer public (while keeping my identity private) so that all sisters can benefit, as this is an important and widespread cause of concern for us which can affect us daily. Jazāk Allāhu Khayran.

Vaginal discharges are of different types as follows:

1- Madhy or pre-seminal discharge which is always emitted on foreplay or when a woman or a man has a state of sexual arousal. It is impure like urine and invalidates wudu.

This ruling is based on the report of Ali  who said, “I was a man who got frequent emotional urethral discharges and I was too embarrassed to ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about it because of his daughter’s position with me (as I was his son in law). Therefore, I asked al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad to (ask him). The Prophet said, “(let him) wash his private part and do ablution.”

According to the version of al-Bukhari, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “wash your private part and make wudu.”

According to the version of Muslim, “perform wudu and sprinkle water over your genitals.”

2- Sperm or maniyy which is discharged by both male and female on sexual arousal or sexual intercourse. It requires full ritual bath but it is pure. This is based on the report of ʻAishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said, “I used to wash semen from the clothes of the Messenger of Allah, and he would go out to the prayer while spots of water remained on his clothes.”

3-  Wady is a white fluid which is discharged after urination or when one carries something heavy. It has the same ruling like madhy.

4- Normal female fluids which a woman discharges normally without sexual arousal or any disease. The preferred view is that they are pure and does not necessitate wudu. The reason is that there is no evidence to prove that they are impure. Moreover, there is no evidence to prove that ablution is invalidated when they are discharged.

5- Wetness of a woman’s vagina.  It is a normal and regular feeling of a woman that she has something wet all the time. It does necessitate her to do ablution.

6- Discharges which goes out of a woman’s vagina due to a disease. They must be washed and ablution must be offered immediately before each single prayer. She cannot offer two prayers with the same ablution.

With regard to point 2, it refers to what is explained in number 4 above.

With regard to point 3, if she finds a trace of it inside. She does not have to make sure 100%. In case she doubts about its existence, she should not do anything. Doubt cannot affect her default state of purity.

With regard to point 4, no. It does not matter. The distinction is based on its color and other conditions which accompany those fluids such as having a sexual desire or not.

With regard to point 5, I have explained it in detail in my answer to your first question.

With regard to point 1 in the second part of your question, this is in case it is a disease. Her case is similar to a woman who has istiḥāḍah or continuous bleeding between two ministrations.

With regard to point 2 in the second part of your question, yes, she has to.

With regard to point 3 in the second part of your question, No. If it is madhy or mady, you have to clean it with water.

With regard to point 4 in the second part of your question, she regards herself as having an abnormal situation in some days and normal situation in others. She performs ablution immediately before each prayer at the former cases but goes back to normal situation later.

With regard to point 5 in the second part of your question, when you see it outside the labia, you should make ablution if it is mady or madhy and full bath if it is sperm. This is based on the report of Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet who said, Umm Sulaym, the wife of Abu Ṭalha (may Allah be pleased with he), came to the Messenger of Allah and said, “Messenger of Allah, Allah is not ashamed of the truth. Does a woman have to perform ghusl when she has a wet dream?” The Messenger of Allah said, “Yes, if she sees liquid (discharge).”

With regard to point 6 in the second part of your question, you can combine two prayers together such as Zhuhr and Asr or Maghrib with Ishaa. Otherwise, you have to make prayers on time.

With regard to point 7 in the second part of your question, you make a wudu for each single obligatory prayer along with its nafl prayer.

Salaam alaikum I am a fan of superhero characters like superman ,flash etc I was asking is it permissible to read comic books and watch their movies even though some one of their traits is being powered by good magic eg Shazam ,the spectre,Thor etc

If those movies include magic, music and polytheism, they are prohibited to watch. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) got angry with Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allah be pleased with him) when he saw him with a piece of the Torah in his hand, and told him to get rid of it.

Many Muslims do not have knowledge to recognize the corrupt ideas in these movies. So some viewers may develop doubts that affect their faith. Some may start to believe in some of the false ideas included in those movies. Moreover, those movies include images of semi naked women, music and magic.
