Assalamualaikum. So my masjid had asked me to teach a Sunday school class and I’m hesitant about it. I really want to teach Islam, spread it, and help kids grow, but I feel in my heart that I am also doing it just to have something to write on my college application as an activity I did. As a high school student I am applying to college soon and I needed an activity to put on my resume as well. I don’t feel sincere to Allah when doing this and am scared to do this teaching even though I really want to pursue Islamic teaching in the future. Is this double niyyah haram? I am just worried that the deed of teaching will not be accepted because of my other intention of teaching. Jazakallah Kairun

I commend your interest to volunteer and teach Kids. Masjids and community centers are in bad need of volunteers to serve the society in the best way.

Having multiple good intentions behind good actions is fine. We all work to earn our living through halal ways and this is considered as an act of worship in itself too.

 

It is acceptable for Qur’an teachers, for example, to be paid for their efforts and they, at the same time, will be rewarded for their good intentions and work. This applies to all kinds of halal work.

 

Given the above, you shouldn’t hesitate to serve your society and community with your talents and skills. It is OK for you to record your community hours that you do at the masjid or the community center in the public service of your society for your application for the college.

Are women's knowledge, opinion, skill at doing something, intelligence, likes, dislikes,choices or even art/crafts/writings/ projects/works done by her or things made by her is considered awrah? If these are witnessed by non Mahram man she is sinner?

In fact, it is very much absurd for anyone to claim that women cannot share their opinions, innovations, creative works, writings, etc., with men from within or outside the family.

 

Muslim women at the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) used to interact with the Prophet (peace be on him) himself and the Sahabah (companions of the Prophet, may Allah be blessed with them all). The Qur’an narrates to us many stories, stances, and statements of exemplary women.

 

It is well-known that Muslim women have been greatly contributing to the development of the society. We have countless records of prominent female scholars and leaders in all aspects of knowledge and civilization.

 

Having said the above, Muslim women and men have to always consider general Islamic values of interactions with people.

Asalamalaikum I have one question on my mind. If the Asr time starts at 04:00pm and ends at 06:30 pm, and I got monthly periods in between that timing say at 04:45pm, then my salah is qaza? As I didn’t offer in between that time and still waited to offer it later. Sometimes, whenever my periods date come closer, that time I keep checking for the periods whether the period started before the prayer time or in between the timings. Or if I get doubt that I'll be getting period and all then I go and offer soon so that my prayer doesn't become qaza. Sometimes, it becomes difficult on such issue. Kindly give a simple solution on this matter. Please reply me scholars as I'm confused on such things. Waiting for your reply. Thank you Jazakallahu khair.

Prayer is the main pillar in Islam. So, a Muslim gives due attention to offering prayers in the best possible way.

 

It’s well-known that Muslims offer the daily prayers at specific times. The Qur’an says, {Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.} (An-Nisa’ 4:103)

 

According to many scholars, it’s preferred for the Muslim to perform the prayers at the beginning of their times and not to unnecessarily delay them.

 

So, you, respected sister, may consider offering the prayers at the beginning of their times, the preferred times for offering the prayers. This way, you may avoid being confused about whether or not you have missed a prayer due to menses.

 

It goes without saying that women are not required to make up for missed prayers due to menses. `A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said, ‘We used to have this (menstruation), and we were ordered to make up for the days of (missed) fasting, but not for the (missed) prayers.’”(Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

 

In another narration, she (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “We used to menstruate during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) and he used to order us to make up for the missed days of fasting and not to make up for the missed prayers.” (At-Tirmithi)
