Mindful Shopping: Shop Like You Mean It!

Budget, Budget Budget

Have a budget for everything. Including items like books, makeup, and items you like to spoil yourself with.

Being mindful about how much we actually spend on these things will sometimes make you realize you are spending more than you want to.  Do a weekly reconcile of your budget. Sometimes doing a monthly reconcile makes you more prone to overspending and overbuying.

Be Cynical of sales

Only buy an item on sale if you would consider buying it at the full price. Buying an item because you found a bargain will cost you in the long run. Most of the things we buy on sale lands up in the bottom of our closet.

Give it your full attention

Try to carve out enough time when you go shopping. When you shop against the clock and with other things to do, you will rush through the decision making process. This will make you forget your intentions and lead you to make poor decisions. Shop with intention and purpose and this requires your full attention.

There are many beautiful, interesting, and useful things in the world. And we all love having nice things. That alone is not a reason to buy. Shopping mindfully will help keep you productive in your purchasing, have less stuff around you, and save you money.
