The Muslim community of Pittsburgh has offered protection to the Jewish religious services in the city after a mass shooting that killed 11 people last week.

“We just want to know what you need,” Wasi Mohamed, the executive director of the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh said during a Sunday news conference.

“If it’s people outside your next service protecting you, let us know. We’ll be there,” Mohamed said.

“If you need anything at all, if you need food for the families, if you just need someone to come to the grocery store because you don’t feel safe in this city, we’ll be there. And I’m sure everybody in the room would say the same thing.”

Deadly shooting

At least 11 people were killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood on Saturday.

This is the second initiative by American Muslims to provide help to Jews in Pittsburgh following the attack.

Earlier this week, Muslim-American non-profits Celebrate Mercy and MPower Change have raised more than $70,000 for the victims of the synagogue shooting.

The funds will cover costs such as funeral expenses and medical bills for the victims and their families.

Moreover, many Muslim groups in the US and Canada expressed solidarity with Jewish community after the deadly shooting.
