A Syrian graffiti artist is using his skills to draw a smile on the faces of traumatized children in the western province of Idlib.
Aziz al-Asmar goes around the city to see children and draw paintings on their faces in order to make them happy. He lets the children use his painting equipment to express themselves. “I consider myself performing my duty with this,” al-Asmar told Al Jazeera.

“It’s our duty to help them find a reason to smile,” Aziz al-Asmar says.
The Syrian artist has been painting on walls since the start of the Syrian revolution in 2011 as a way to document the events.
“The goal is to make the children happy,” al-Asmar says. “They have been subjected to a lot of stress because of the war.” “The children’s friendship and love is the greatest reward for me,” the Syrian artist says.
