The Ultimate Beginners Guide to Muslim Podcasts

5. 7 Stories

7 Stories, a podcast for children, is produced by Toledo society, which is a network of podcasts dedicated to English speaking Muslims across the world.

If you ever struggled to find  something suitable to listen with your kids on their ride to school, then you should consider adding 7 stories to your playlist. These are 7 minute stories specifically produced to keep your children engaged while you drive. The stories, are fun, scary, and sometimes even sad. Every story has an important message for you to discuss with your children. There are unique stories such as “Spidey the Big Red Spider,” and about the chicken that was an eagle.

The show is presented by Wasan Altikrit the founder of an Arabic learning resources start-up called ‘Arnoub, and by Moeed Ahmad who is a digital media executive and the launcher of multiple successful brands like AJ+, Jetty, and Contrast VR within Al Jazeera.

6. The Transit Lounge with Mohamad Zaoud

So you’ve  taken a huge step in 2019 and finally got that start-up off the ground, I suggest you drive your way to success by  listening to the Transit lounge. The Transit Lounge has interviewed the likes of likes of Peter Gould in an episode titled, “The Road to Zileej” and also chronicles the journeys of people who’ve made a considerable impact on the Muslim world.

Hosted by Mohamad Zaoud, the Transit Lounge tackles the highs and lows of trying to live a balanced life as a contemporary Muslim. The show is currently on its fourteenth episode and Zaoud has interviewed some interesting personalities which include Dalia Mogahed, and Dov Hanan of Psych Central. The Transit Lounge is another Toledo Society production.

7. One Foot in the Sink Podcast

One foot in the sink is a light hearted Muslim lifestyle podcast. Muslim lifestyle here means living an inclusive life while still in the boundaries of Islam, and at the same time pushing yourself to become a better human being and Muslim. This show celebrates the success stories in our communities and is hosted by Foz and Aneez from the UK. There are no politics and debates on One Foot in the Sink and you could pick up a few Muslim lifestyle hacks as well. The intro at the beginning of every episode is enjoyably tongue in cheek.

If you are looking for something light but still highly motivating, try One Foot in the Sink.

8. The Woman Up Podcast

The Woman Up podcast is an extension of Aida Azlin’s brand of women empowerment through sisterhood. Aida runs the podcast with her Woman Up Squad, women based all over the world world working together online, allowing the podcast to have a more global and inclusive feel about it. The Woman Up Squad are all about  sharing the good vibes and positivity, while equipping women with the tools to become better versions of themselves. Each episode includes the show’s notes, which you can find on their website. This is great refresher or add on and helps the listener to hone in on the pertinent points mentioned in the show.

This show is like food for your soul and I suggest a notebook, pen and cup of coffee while you listen. It’s perfect to steady you through those quiet and reflective moments.

9. Sincerely, Sumayah & Recite and Reflect Podcasts

Ramadan is fast approaching and if you want to drown out those aunties talking about all their samoosa prep, Recite and Reflect is the podcast you should be listening to. The show is hosted by Sumayah Hassan, an American residing in the UK and also one of the team members of the Honest Tea Talk show on Facebook. Recite and Reflect is essentially a workshop reflecting on the Qur’an. The podcasts are short bytes of ruminations but nonetheless powerful reminders. Her past episodes are the perfect cursor to begin your Ramadan spiritual prep.

Sumayah has recently launched her second podcast, Sincerely Sumayah, about which she says, “Talking about the things I feel strongly about. This is not for everyone and that’s okay.” One of her episodes titled “Super Mom and Other Mythical Creatures,” which I chose on a whim, is definitely one for your favorites list.
Podcasts are one of the best ways to get your thought processes going, helping to drown out those negative murmurs and instead replace them with something positive and stimulating. I spent a week filling up the empty spaces with these voices. I was left feeling invigorated and wanting to do more.

The podcasts on this ultimate guide are intended to help change your perspective or even move you to change the direction of your life in a few areas. Enjoy!
