Adult Coloring: Using Art As Therapy and a Stress Reliever

Using Art As Therapy and a Stress Reliever

An Excuse to Ditch the Technology

Using art as therapy and a stress reliever are not the only reasons coloring books are so popular nowadays.

Coloring is also a great excuse to ditch the technology and do something tactile. Adults are constantly staring at screens: desktops, laptops, tablets, phones, etc. Whether for business or personal use, it has become very difficult to “disconnect.”

Even avid readers have switched over to kindles and tablets to consume books, magazines, and newspapers. Adult coloring book provides a great outlet to escape from all the screens while still entertaining the mind. And as hobbies go these books and pencils are compact and be taken along anywhere and there will certainly be no worries about running out of battery power.

Tapping into Your Creative Side

And perhaps the biggest reason people are tapping into a creative side that they assumed it  was just not there. El-Nadi says,

“In Egypt, we don’t take art seriously. Art classes at school are considered a “hobby” rather than a basic human skill. When you don’t practice this skill, you lose a large part of your awareness and your attention to the details of the world around you.”

Her coloring club continues to grow in number and young and old attend.  Many say they finally found a family activity to replace dull TV evenings, so they can reconnect with their spouses and children again.

Those who brought their spouses and children to the workshops said that they learn and have fun together. At the end of the class, the most common question asked is, “ When will we meet again?”

Coloring book for adults continue to ascent to the top of bestseller lists around the world. This trend is not showing any sign of going away any time soon. Putting aside the health benefits which are a bonus, at the end of the day coloring in is good for you, because it is so much fun.

And remember you don’t have to be an artist to produce a masterpiece.
