7 Spring Trends in Hijabi Fashion 2019

We all have been waiting for the sun to shine again after long, cold weather. With the glimpse of the lovely weather of spring we’ve just experienced in Europe, we got excited about folding all the jackets and hide them in the warehouse, wondering what to wear the next couple of months.

Although some of us are tired of fashion, as the fashion industry isn’t always as inclusive as it should be, we are noticing that it’s definitely improving. For example, some big model agencies have recruited a few visibly Muslim women to attract the Muslim market and to increase diversity on the catwalk. The awareness on body positivity has also led to the inclusion of plus size models. The definition of beauty in society is changing. You don’t have to be white, skinny, and tall to rock the runway or street style fashion anymore.

So, are you ready to get inspired by the triumph look of Spring/Summer 2019 by these Muslim hijabis? Let’s take a look.

1. Animal Print

Who says animal print has a limited color combination? Egyptian fashion influencer, Sherouky has a good taste in combining colors. She layered her cheetah print dress with a black shirt underneath. Sherouky styled her half side turban in the color of grey, and added a soft peachy brown color on her outfit for her ankle boots and bag.

2. Neon

Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna, knows best how to play with neon. She’s wearing black from head-to-toe, a blazer that is a bit lighter of color – here, a grey blazer, et voila, a neon roll-neck underneath the blazer, that brightens the whole look! Simple, yet a game-changer for Muslim fashionista’s who’d like to rock neon as well.

3. Printed Headscarf/headgear

Who doesn’t know the gorgeous Halima Aden? She’s a Somali-American fashion model and the first woman to wear a hijab in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant. She’s not only an inspiration for the Muslim youth, but also inspired us to wear printed clothing. We are often scared to combine printed trench coats, dressed, trousers, skirts, or shirts with a printed headscarf, but it seems like it’s the best time to be out of your comfort zone style this spring!

4. Tie-Dye

Dian Pelangi is an Indonesian designer and the queen of tie-dye in Indonesia. And when we talk about tie-dye, it doesn’t have to be colorful. For those who are afraid to play with various colors, you can stick to black and white tie-dye like what the model wears on the picture. Dian Pelangi is styling a model for her latest collection.

5. Color Wheel Tailoring

Color wheel tailoring is happening and it will remain the same until this Spring/Summer! We can style this look with a belt in the same, a lighter or a more bold color for the hijab, shoes, and bag. The shirt underneath the blazer can be a more neutral color, like white or black. Blogger Leena is the queen of those colors.

6. Bucket Hat

A hijabi always struggles to put a hat on top of the hijab, but Somali fashion model Salma seems to have fun with her bucket hat. To mix a hijab and a hat it’s important to wear a simple non-layered hijab. You can play with both plain and printed hijab or hat. You may choose what you like!

7. Yellow

Yellow is going to be the queen this spring, so make sure to keep this vibrant color in mind! Look how cool rapper Mona Haydar is pulling off her yellow outfit. You can choose one piece of clothing in the color of yellow, or two pieces, or even from head-to-toe. Mona chose her top, bottom, and shoes in yellow, and wore a printed headscarf with a little accent of yellow, some goldish accessories, and animal printed belt.

BONUS: Puffed Shoulders

Last but not least: puffed shoulders! What really matters for hijabi’s who’re wearing puffed shoulders, is to make sure to wear the right hijab style. Don’t cover your shoulder with the hijab. The most simple hijab you can wear is just like what Palestinian-Puerto Rican fashion influencer Maria Alia wears.

Honestly, I feel inspired and relieved after seeing all these beauties. A small change in the present day of the fashion industry can impact the future of it. We can see how important it is for the fashion industry to be inclusive – Asian, African, American in all colors and shape. Hopefully, the fashion industry will keep include every kind of woman, so that all of them feel represented when seeing runway models. But most importantly, I hope you’ve got some ideas for your Spring 2019 wardrobe!
