Any Significance for Shaban 15?

21 April, 2019
Q As-salamu `alaykum. Does Sha`ban 15 have any significance?

Answer

Wa `alaykum as-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

1- The acts of worship are to be restricted by the Shariah texts, either from the Quran or the Sunnah.

2- This necessitates that there must not be any innovations in such matters.

3- With regard to the middle of Shaban, there is no specific kind of worship reported in the Quran or the Sunnah.

Responding to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:

There are no prescribed rituals of worship to be performed on Shaban 15. If there had been any such rituals to be performed, then it would have been stated clearly in the authentic traditions.

Having said this, we cannot stop people from performing nawafil any time; for nawafil are simply optional prayers; no one can stop anyone from performing them any time except those times when prayers are forbidden.

Allah Almighty knows best.
