Crowning a Fractured Tooth: Permissible?

17 February, 2018
Q Is it forbidden to do crowning to patch up a fractured tooth? And is it forbidden for Muslims to rebond their hair?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

If there is a need to repair a damaged part of the body such as a fractured tooth, then there is nothing wrong with that.

Responding to the question, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore states:

Our body is a trust from Allah and we must protect and preserve it. Therefore, it is not permissible for us to alter or tamper with our physical faculties unnecessarily.

Rebonding hair means straightening it using heat. It is not forbidden in Islam. What is forbidden in Islam is to extend the hair with human, animal, or synthetic hair.

As for crowning the tooth, it is not forbidden in Islam, as it means repairing something that is broken. The aim of Islam is to keep the Muslim away from all sources of harm, whether psychological or physical.

Almighty Allah knows best.
