Does Father’s Sacrifice On Behalf of His Son Count If He Lives in a Separate House?

08 August, 2019
Q If a married man lives in a different city than his father – would his father’s sacrifice count on behalf of him and his children?

Answer

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu waRahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

What is prescribed is that each household should offer its own sacrifice.

In this regard, Sheikh Ibn Baz, the late Mufti of Saudi Arabia, states:

If you live in a separate house, then it is prescribed for you to offer a sacrifice on behalf of yourself and the members of your household, and your father’s sacrifice does not count for you, which is on behalf of him and the members of his household, because you do not live in the same house with them, rather you live in a separate house.

Allah Almighty knows best.
