Q
Salam Aleikom. I am Mohamed. I am married, no kids yet. This was my wife’s and my first Ramadan. As I live in the West, and Eid is during the working days, I do not have any festive mood.
I need to go to work, I was not able to take days off, especially because we always know at the last moment when Eid is. This makes it hard for Muslims in the West to attend the Eid prayer if it is during the weekdays.
My wife is in the same situation: she needs to go to work. We are both converts and unsure actually what to do on Eid. Shall we celebrate it as Christmas?
How could we still feel the sense of Eid? JazakAllah.

Answer
Salam Aleikom,
In this counseling video, you will learn:
Next year, take both days off if you can.
Eid prayer is in the early morning. So, could you maybe ask permission from your workplace to be a bit late so that you can at least attend the prayer?
You may want to do similar things as you would do at Christmas – of course, while keeping things halal.
Go to a restaurant with your wife; do something fun together after work.
Decorate your house.
You could exchange presents.
Dress up nicely.
Give things for the people in need.
