Were All Prophets Arab? Arabic the “Language of Heaven?”

04 September, 2019
Q As-salamu Alaykum, Is it true that all prophets came in Arabia? And what is the language of Heaven?

Answer

Short Answer: No, not all Prophets were from among the Arabs, and no, Arabic is not the “language of Heaven.” It’s easy to assume such considering how many prophets in recorded history were Arab, but God says he sent all people a warner from among their own people before Prophet Muhammad, who was the final prophet for all time.

Asalamu Alaikum Ishaq,

Thank you for contacting About Islam with your question.

The Quran clearly states that there were no people to whom a prophet was not sent, as mentioned in these verses:

[…] and there never was a people, without a warner having lived among them (in the past). (Quran 35:24)

[…] to every people (there has been) a guide. (Quran 13:7)

We did aforetime send messengers before you: of them there are some whose story We have related to you, and some whose story We have not related to you […] (Quran 40:78)

The above verses clearly show that prophets (peace be upon them) came to all peoples in all parts of the world, in different periods of time, not only to Arabia.

But, we can understand your line of thinking since all (or most) of the twenty-five prophets mentioned in the Quran came to the region encompassing Arabia.

This is also understandable in the light of God’s plan to complete His religion for us through the Last Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who was born and lived in Saudi Arabia.

The Language of Heaven

As for your second question: what is the language of Heaven? Some claim it is Arabic.

However, nowhere in the Quran or authentic hadith does it says that there is a specific language of Heaven, not even Arabic.

Nor is it an article of the Islamic faith to believe that there is a specific language of Heaven.

As life in Heaven will be different from this life, and free from every worry and hardship, we don’t need to worry about potential language or communication problems.

This is because Heaven will be a place and an experience transcending all the contingencies and limitations of our earthly life. And Allah is Wise and Powerful.

We must also remember that Allah Almighty’s justice encompasses all.

So, there is no question of His doing any kind of injustice to any people who do not speak a certain language, especially those who will be entering Heaven.

And Allah knows best.

I hope this helps.

Salam and please keep in touch.
