Tested for Covid-19 or Forever?

In the past weeks as we have all been confined to our homes, and the majority of us became really overwhelmed by using large amounts of disinfectants.

To some extent, it is no longer a virus that is making the people sick but the enormous amounts of chemicals that’s being inhaled due to the panic of maybe acquiring even the littlest dust around the corner.

One very close sister to my heart is no different from everyone. She had exhausted all her energy one day just to be sure their family home is as spotless and tidy as possible.

The following days after that, she had experienced something strange in her breathing, it was somewhat blocked that made it really difficult for her to even just gasp for a little air.

Then the next thing she knew she developed a fever. By this time, with these two major symptoms present, all the frightful thoughts we imagine started running into her head.

Covid-19 Panic

She finished her Qur’an work online like it was her last days. At the same time she was also in denial, living as everything is just fine, nothing to be worried about. As she was living in a family house with her parents and siblings, she became really very scared for them.

So she isolated herself as much as she could without them knowing of what is going on to not cause the entire household to panic. However, in the following days she became more ill.

She rushed to the doctors and insisted to be checked for Covid-19.

As a BSN graduate, I have knowledge that when patients rush to hospitals and healthcare providers receive them, they will not be diagnosed up front just because of some present symptoms.

For sure there are procedures, like reviewing patients’ medical history and for the case of Covid, there is a specific checklist. All hospitals are abiding to triage or what is simply known as the sorting out of all patients, for example in an emergency room sorts according to the urgency of the patients’ need for care.

My dear friend went to two doctors. Both of them reassured her that she didn’t need to be sent for Covid testing. Alhamdulillah.

All of that she was experiencing, the difficulty of breathing, the fever was just a result of too much chlorine inhalation and the body’s response to her fear and anxiety. So she was discharged and had been prescribed medicines. After taking just the first pill, she completely became better. Alhamdulillah.

A Moment of Realization

Having been in this scenario, she had suddenly realized how literally weak we humans are. How a very small change or doubt in our faith can make all the rest in us decline and shut down.

And Allah wants to lighten for you [your difficulties]; and mankind was created weak.|

An-Nisaa’  : 28

It made her think of how she was spending all her time working in this dunya that seems endless. Next thing she knew the world that she’s been living and working for didn’t for a moment try to give comfort to her as she was in that fear and anxiety.

She had kept aside the most important things which are for her Akhira, her Qur’an, helping her people in Somalia, and simply taking care of herself, her health. And all the things that Allah had blessed her with but had only been taken for granted.

\From that moment she knew, it made her wake up from years of sleeping. And In Shaa Allah, this world will never be the same for her again.

And In Shaa  Allah, it never will be for the rest of us.

Said one who had knowledge from the Scripture, “I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you.” And when [Solomon] saw it placed before him, he said, “This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful. And whoever is grateful – his gratitude is only for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever is ungrateful – then indeed, my Lord is Free of need and Generous.” (An-Naml:40)

May we continuously be grateful for the blessings that Allah has given us. May we not take for granted our lives here in dunya, but to utilize them in ways that is only for the sake of Allah.

And may Allah- The Possessor of All Bounties, The Most Generous, The One Who Grants and Withholds, Our Provider- accept all our efforts, forgive us our sins, and grace our hearts and souls with satisfaction and goodness that is only and will be beneficial for our hereafter. Ameen.
