Islam Has Been Decreed For Me

How did I embrace the religion?

To me it was quite an introduction,

When I first got to one country in the Gulf region.

************

First it was the sound of the adhan,

Then I saw a completely covered woman.

That was when my curiousity began.

**********

I had read about women in Islam.

Then learned about how the Prophet (PBUH) was a truly nobleman.

I was shown how a Muslim pray by a sister, may Allah bless her, she was Tunisian.

************

Then I get to know reverted sisters from my country one by one,

They were there to answer my queries and in everything to just give me a helping hand.

From hijab tutorials to the many things about Islam and how good deeds should be done.

**************

The time came I felt I was ready,

Like it has been from long ago written for me.

It was the beginning of my Islamic journey.

***************

{There shall be no compulsion in (acceptance of) the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut (i.e. false gods, idols, devils and seducers) and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.} (2:256)

**************

I embrace Islam in the UAE,

Where gaining knowledge is almost everywhere accessible and for free.

Alhamdulillah, familiarizing myself with the religion had been made easy.

*************

And what about my family?

I hadn’t inform anyone primarily.

To not have any interference of what I want for myself really.

**************

I had told everyone after sometime,

Allah made it easy for me, Alhamdulillah, my family accepted it just fine.

I respect their life decisions, so they also respected mine.

****************

I learned the basic of Islam, the five pillars to begin with.

Each stage I encounter in learning I felt like I am being freed,

From ignorance to the correct beliefs.

****************

The intention from the heart matters.

In embracing the religion, what am I after?

For my hereafter, that’s the answer.

***************

To this day, I remember everything so clearly.

Then and now, where the life had took me.

For sure, it was not all a walk in the park only.

******************

The life in this world is always a combination of good and bad,

Moments that we are happy and sad.

Being grateful to Allah makes me forget all that I have had.

*****************

For us, the Quran is a map.

The examples of our Prophet (PBUH) shows us what to do and what we should not.

Our whole Muslim lives are all about acting upon that.

****************

Alhamdulillah for Islam and all life’s journey.

It has been decreed for me,

Because when Allah wants a thing to happen, He only says to it, “Be!”

{Originator of the heavens and the earth. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, “Be,” and it is.} (2:117)

About Umm Asiyah
I reverted to Islam in 2014. Alhamdulillah. It hasn't been the same since. And I had started to do poetry in relation to my Islamic journey.
